The Georgian Folklore Journal

The Georgian Folklore Journal

Project Overview:

The Georgian Folklore Journal is a digital platform created to preserve, showcase, and share academic and cultural knowledge related to Georgian folk heritage. The website allows users to read, browse, and download folklore journals, as well as access blog-style news articles, view multimedia, and navigate archives.

My Role: UX & UI Designer

I was responsible for designing the platform from scratch — including the information architecture, UI components, and responsive layouts — with a focus on accessibility, cultural authenticity, and seamless user interaction.

Key UX Goals & Solutions:

Clear Access to Journal Content
Designed intuitive journal navigation with page-turning UI, archive filters, and download options
Created a layout where users can read directly in-browser with minimal distraction
Offered responsive reading on mobile/tablets, preserving readability

Authentic Visual Design

Leveraged traditional Georgian typography and warm earthy tones that reflect cultural roots
Balanced modern usability with heritage aesthetics to create a trustworthy, museum-like atmosphere

Informative Blog Section

Structured the blog/news layout to be content-first, enabling readers to easily scan or explore deeper articles
Designed clean article templates with readable font sizes, proper spacing, and social share elements

Easy Navigation

Created a consistent global header and footer, a minimal hamburger menu on mobile, and clearly labeled sections for journals, news, and support
Ensured the website is multi-language-ready and accessible
